Find Your Mantra

According to Wikipedia, a mantra is as follows:

"A mantra is a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that are considered capable of "creating transformation" (cf. spiritual transformation).[1] Their use and type varies according to the school and philosophy associated with the mantra."

When I first found dividend growth investing and frugal living in early 2010 I had found my mantra. I had found a way to freedom from being a consumer caught up in an endless cycle of earning to buy and saving to spend. The consumerist cycle that holds people down into a never ending rat race is very hard to escape from. I encourage everyone to find their own mantra, whatever that may be.

Obviously dividend growth investing is not a get a get-rich-quick scheme. It is a method to slowly build wealth through an ever growing passive income stream. The end goal for most investors that follow this strategy is for passive income to meet 100% of all expenses or exceed them. My goal is to achieve that mark on or before my 40th birthday.

    1. Aspenhawk,

I've never run into that specific calculator before, but it works pretty much like a lot of others I've seen and used before. Always nice to look out a decade from now and see what your portfolio may very well be worth. Inspiration is priceless!

Glad you enjoy the blog. I hope you continue to stick around.

      Best regards.

    2. yep, this calculator is really stupid, I just noticed it after the post. You may be sure I will go on sticking around, as you have pretty good ideas. More to that I really appreciate that you always answer to all your followers. I am curious about you logic behind the weighting of your positions. Good to you

    3. Aspenhawk,

My logic behind the weighting of individual positions in my Fund is still basically the same as when I began this journey. I plan on eventually trying to weigh every position fairly evenly, with no one position being larger than 6% or so and no one position being smaller than 2%. There will be a variance, and I don't plan on every company representing an exact equal amount in the Fund, but I don't want one company, even a particularly strong one, having an overwhelming amount of control over my income.

I'm still in the asset accumulation phase, so my weightings will change every single month. My true vision of the Freedom Fund will start to evolve a few years from now.

      I hope that helps!

      Best wishes.
