Weekend Reading – December 10, 2011

Another beautiful weekend down here in southwest Florida. I hope everyone out there is getting some relaxation in. I know my weeks can be quite hectic!

The year is drawing to a close. I can’t believe that 2011 is almost over! I don’t know about anyone else, but this year has absolutely flown by for me. Sometimes I need to remind myself to live in the moment. When you’re quantifying everything in your life and living from one month to another, and checking monthly goals off your list, time tends to fly by. I hope that I get to slow 2012 down a little bit and really savor every moment. Every day alive is a good day! I do know that I’m marching closer and closer towards some of my personal finance goals and one day that will provide me a lot of personal time to reflect and really enjoy every single minute.

I hope everyone out there has a safe and happy weekend. Enjoy every moment!

Here are some excellent articles from fellow dividend growth investors, frugalists and personal finance bloggers from the past week.

Do You Have What It Takes To Be A Dividend Investor?
The Dividend Guy provides us a survey to take. This survey tries to get to some of the reasons one really invests and asks if you have what it takes. Check it out.

Dividend Aristocrats List for 2012
DGI provides us the Dividend Aristocrats for 2012. Great list here for some solid dividend growth opportunities. As DGI mentions, although this is a great list, a list most dividend growth investors use to research potential investments is the CCC document, maintained by gracious David Fish.

November 2011 Dividend Income Update
My Own Advisor shares an update with us on his dividend income for 2011. Great stuff here and I can’t wait until I’m collecting dividends like this. One day…one day.

Dividend Income Progress Update – November 2011
D4L discusses his dividend income progress and also shows us some of his recent purchases. Huge dividend numbers, and I won’t be touching these kinds of dividends for many, many years. I find his purchases extremely interesting as I also purchased MDT and GD last month. One of his other buys, which I’ll be discussing very soon, I purchased just a few days ago. Great minds think alike, D4L! I see he sold a telecom holding, CTL. I also sold my major telecom  holding recently too. And although I sold mine for the same reasons (declining fundamentals), I unfortunately did not experience the capital gain he did. Live and learn! I’ll be discussing all these changes to my Freedom Fund very soon. Stay tuned!

European Union Looks for New Rules, and GE, F, ABT Dividend News
DSO discusses the recent news out of the EU and some news regarding some dividend payers, including the new dividend from Ford. What do you think of the recent boost from GE? They are obviously trying to get back to paying out healthy dividends, and the yield is currently above 4%. However, I am concerned about massive amounts of debt and lingering issues from GE Capital. Anyone else?

The Maturation of Large Cap Tech Stocks?
Dividend Monk reviews the maturation of some large cap tech stocks and what it means to the individual investor looking to buy into tech. I think this touches on some great information, including how after the big tech boom/bust a decade ago there are some solid picks in tech for a dividend growth investor. My favorites here are INTC and MSFT. I am currently long on INTC and am interested in initiating a position with MSFT in the near future.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Kanwal Sarai,

I wish! That’s actually Bora Bora. I really love tropical locations and plan to live somewhere tropical/warm for the rest of my life. Hopefully, one day, I’ll be able to visit Bora Bora and some of the French Polynesian islands.

That all being said, southwest Florida isn’t too bad! 🙂

    Best wishes!

  2. Wow, awesome photo.

The way you are saving, man, you’ll be well ahead of me with the dividends AND you’ll be able to buy some land in Bora Bora 🙂

    Cheers,
    Mark

  3. MOA,

    Thanks for stopping by!

Yeah, gotta love the French Polynesia! I’d love to spend about a year there after I become financially independent. Just settle down, spend time at the beach and write my thoughts down.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m trying to catch up to you…but you’re a moving target! Keep up the great work on your end.

    Take care!
